The Who Knows

The Who Knows is one of our favourite hotel barges. Offering both full board and half board charters, the Who Knows is the only hotel barge cruising on the Burgundy canal to offer such flexibility.

Jason and Dawn, English and bi-lingual, will be only too happy to adjust the set itinerary to suit your particular interests. With 24 years experience in the hospitality industry, this dynamic couple appreciates guests should be treated as such.

Who KnowsOriginally built to transport grain, this wonderful boat was lovingly converted to offer comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests, while retaining that old ship atmosphere through the careful use of wood and brass fittings.

Fully heated, this boat offer three ensuite cabins: a large double cabin at the front, and two twins at the rear, these areas being separated by two cabins, one housing a single bed available upon request if needed, and one housing laundry facilities, which guests are welcome to use.

Two saloons offer comfortable areas in which to dine or simply relax. A CD music system, magazines and books are all available on board, as are tea and coffee making facilities.

Up on deck you can choose to relax on the front sun deck while drinking a glass of Burgundy wine, or to observe the Captain piloting the barge on the rear deck.

Who KnowsEach day a number of activities will be offered, planned to enrich your stay in Burgundy, a region rich in history, gastronomy and culture. Enjoy the guided excursions, walk or cycle the tow-paths, or simply watch the world drift by.

As you step aboard Who Knows, prepare to relax your troubles away. By the end of your cruise, we know you'll be looking forward to the next one.

A typical itinerary

Dijon - Vandenesse

Sunday 16H00 : After being met by your captain at the TGV station at Dijon, or a Dijon hotel of your choice, your break begins with a private minibus transfer to the Who Knows, moored on the Burgundy canal. Enjoy a welcome drink with Jason and Dawn, your hosts for the week, before setting off for a sunset cruise to Plombieres les Dijon. Dinner aboard.

Monday : After a good night's rest and a continentale breakfast, you will be ready for the morning tour of the Burgundy wine area. After lunch on board, relax during the cruise to Fleury-sur-Ouche. You may choose to dine at the restaurant, Pont de Pany.

Tuesday : Today we take you back in time to the 10th century when Cistercian monks built the wine caves at the Clos de Vougeot. There are a number of ancient artefacts on display, in addition to the more modern techniques. After lunch on board, marvel at the limestone cliffs and wooded hills of the Valley d'Ouche as you cruise gracefull to Gisseu-sur-Ouche, a delightful, rural village. Why not enjoy a quiet drink on deck before setting out for an evening meal?

Wednesday : No visit to Burgundy is complete without a trip to Dijon. Renowned for it's architecture, take time to explore the old town, Medieval market area and the Palais des Ducs, once home to the Dukes of Burgundy, and now an excellent museum.
After lunch on board, the afternoon cruise will take us to La Bussiere. If you are a nature lover, you may like to visit the nearby gardens at the Abbey. A minibus drive away, dine in the Ferme Auberge, La Rolle, for traditional fare.

Thursday : Beaune, the second most celebrated town of Burgundy is our excursion this morning. Not only are there some excellent caves here from which you can arrange to have some wine shipped home for your own cellar, but also the world famous Hospice de Beaune, in the old town center. This hospital built in 1442 was still in use until recent times, and is now a museum. The Great Hall, with it's short beds, and chapel is most impressive, as is the Pharmacy and kitchen. Don't forget your cameras as the architecture is simply astounding on the outside of the building. After lunch on board, our cruise along the valley continues until we reach Pont d'Ouche. Evening dinner can be taken at the Chateau, at Saint Sabine.

Friday : Our final full day will begin with a morning cruise to Vandenesse. In the afternoon, enjoy the panoramic views from Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, a fine Medieval city overlooking Vandenesse. A number of excellent restaurants are to be found in both towns.

Saturday : After breakfast, and farewells, we will escort you safely back to Dijon TGV station, for your return to Paris or onward journey.
