Pleasure craft

Updated 05.01.2007

All pleasure craft in France must purchase a "vignette". Even if you are passing through France from the Med to the channel.

The total cost depends on the surface area (not volume or tonnage) of the craft and the duration of the desired cruise, there are four types of duration to chose from. The certicate can be purchased from any "point d'accueil".

The following documents are required.

  • A check in Euro is be used as payment (no cash).
  • Name and address of the owner of the vessel
  • Name of craft, water draft, registration or at least the series type.
  • Lenght and width of the crafts hull.
  • Certificate of navigation (of some type), the engine horsepower

A bill of payment will be given when requested.

Definitions of the cruise durations:

  • Year (Année): As the name indicates, this is valid for a cruising year, i.e. 1 January to 31 December.
  • Pleasure (Loisirs): Valide for 30 non consecutive days, ideal if you wish to "Stop and Go".
  • Vacation (Vacances): Delivered for 16 consecutive day, from the given start day. If the start is a Saturday, then it is valid fpr three consecutive weekends.
  • Day ticket (Journée): Delivered for a given date, only two examples will be sold at one time.

When you pay your cruise tax, you will be given a receipt and certificate. The certificate must be displayed on the starboard side of the craft in a visible place. Both documents should be shown when the craft is controlled. There is no V.A.T. on tolls in France.
