The port of Dijon

Dijon jousting

A large crowd of people gather to watch a jousting competition during the festival on the waters of the Port of Dijon. In the back ground you can see the Obelisk which was built to commemorate the construction of the canal.

The buildings beside the monument have all disappeared as the port is now a very beautiful garden and park.

The jousting competitions were very popular before, with teams battling each other.

Close up of the battle

This is a close up of the previous photo so that you can see the two jousters with their shields and arms. The objective is to push the opponent off the boat and into the water. The oarsmen row the boats to pick up speed before the attack.

Just behind the jouster on the left you will notice a group of policemen.
