Barge shop at Ravieres

Le Vapeur

The barge moored in the village of ravieres near Montbard was very well known, called Le Vapeur it would cruise upand down the canals and rivers of Burgundy selling pottery of all kinds. Owned and operated by Mr. Déridge, he continued his business for decades, in fact his brother had a barge of the samenam, but operated in another region.

He would simply moor in the village, selling his wares for a few days and then move up the canal to the next village. Although the barge was a steel hull, the deck was made out of wood and contained hundreds of ports, plates and other goods, especially those used in the kitchen.
