Old photo of the canal lock at Pont de Pany

The old postcard shown above, proves that things do remain the same. The lock marks the entrance to the Valley Ouche. Dijon is to the right and the canal also makes a right turn when heading downstream. There is a small road that passes in front of the lock house which takes you over the hills and towads Nuit Saint Georges.

The village was once a very important "Bread" market, hence the name "Pain". The bridge crossing the river Ouche was also an important frontier during the fuedal times. You'll find a baker, post office, bar and restaurant. On the small market place there is often a Pizza van (not very French I know)

Hidden in the forest, you will fid the Luxury hotel Chateau la Chassagne, with an excellent restaurant and is an ideal holiday destination. More information

The mooring on the righthand side above Lock 38 is much better than below the lock.

Beside lock 38 there is restaurant: tel 03 80 23 60 59

Moorings

Above lock 38, comfortable and well shaded and protected from the freeway.
Below the lock there is a good turning point for 30 metre barges.
