A view of the Cercey reservoir

A distant view of the reservoir of Panthier.

Cercey stair case

Although the canal was built to be functional, the engineers of the "Ponts et Chausses" always kept in mind the need for elegance in design with all the structures. The photo above shows a sluice gate which has an almost religious aspect with the stairs climbing up the dam to reach the sluice.

Panthier in winter

At the end of winter the reservoirs are full of water, ready to supply the canal throughout the summer.

Panthier sluice gate

When this sluice gate is lifted, water is sent down the small dykes to the canal.

Chazilly reservoir

The Reservoir dam of Chazilly which is no longer filled to it's maximum capacity.

Chazilly dam

The dam wall viewed from below, during the recent years, there has been much renovation work on the wall, the reservoir has also been dragged with hundreds of tonnes of silt being removed.
