A beautiful medieval village on a hill top looking towards the Morvan.
Every August there is the famous "Vide Grenier", a second hand
and antic fair, which attracts a few thousands people. All the streets
ar occupied with staands selling all kinds of items. It's also a
good time to eat and drink.
The village is also home to a very old fortified castle, which
is already mentioned in 924AD with rivalry between the Vergy family
and neighbouring fuedal lords.
The castle is changes hands numerous times in the early part of
the 1400's. Pierre de Bauffremont becomes the owner of the fief,
he donated the chapel to the village in 1146. the chapel has a crypt
dating from the 10th century. Pierre de Bauffremont marries th Duke
of Burgundy, Philippe le Bon's daughter Marie de Bourgogne.
There is a hospital dating from the 1188 AD from the order of Saint
Augustin, the Priory of Nailly. The hospital continued to operate
until the 18th century. Confiscated by the inhabitants during the
revolution, it was used as an asulum for the poor.
The village changed its name during the revolution to Mont Serein.
