Pont d'Ouche

Things have not really changed at Pont d'Ouche, the view you can see is exactly the same today, the main difference is that things are even more calm than when the photo was taken. The people are standing on the bridge which crosses the river Ouche. To the right you have the cafe hotel which is still open.

A street view near the cafe

During the period this photo was taken the train station was still operating, it was situated just behind the cafe to the right. When people where waiting or arrived at the station, the natural thing to do was to have a drink in the cafe.

Lock house 20 on the canal

This view is of lock number 20 a few yards from the cafe and port of Pont d'Ouche. To the right in the foreground there are ladies sitting on the canal bank with some young children. At the lock, there is a barge with people standing beside the barge watching the operation. A big difference with today is the trees along the tow path on the left have changed, the ones you can see are silver birch, which are not planted today, as the preferred species is lime or elm.

The small canal port

Another view that has little changed today. The cafe can seen behind the tree in the centre, to the right there is a building near the bridge which was part of the once tile factory. To the lower left on the bank is a lady washing clothes in the water, which is a rare scene.
