Laroche Migennes is the Northern entrance to the Burgundy canal. It is on the river Yonne and allows access to the Burgundy canal from the river Seine, via the river Yonne.

During the construction of the canal, this was one of the first sections to be completed in 1777.

With the very useful Chantier Fluvial de Migennes, a 60 ton crane, storage ashore for 50+ boats of up to 40 tons, This can often prove to be an important stop on your cruise.

Below, a postcard of a steam "tow boat" (center). The boat pulled a heavy fixed chain that lay on the river bed. It's job being to pull barges off the river and on to the canal during flod times. The river Yonne has a reputation of being un stable during heavy rainfall.
