Laroche Migennes is the Northern entrance to the Burgundy canal from the river Yonne.
"Leboat" selfdrive rentals have a base in the port.
During the construction of the canal, this was one of the first sections to be completed in 1777.
Below is a postcard of a steam "tow boat" (center). The boat pulled a heavy fixed chain that lay on the river bed (which you can see). It's job was to tug the barges off the flooded river and on to the canal. The river Yonne has a reputation of being un stable during heavy rainfall.
