Laroche Migennes
Laroche Migennes is the Northern entrance to the Burgundy canal from the river Yonne.
The town has good railway connections with Paris and Paris.
During the construction of the canal, this was one of the first sections to be completed in 1777.
Below is a postcard of a steam "towboat" (center). The boat pulled a heavy fixed chain that lay on the river bed (which you can see). Its job was to tug the barges off the flooded river and onto the canal. The river Yonne has a reputation of being unstable during heavy rainfall.
