The electric tug at Pouilly en Auxois

Pouilly en Auxois tunnel

The boat in the foreground is the electric tug, which was used to pull barges through the tunnel. The vertical posts on the banks are used to support the suspended 600 volt cable from which the the tug drew the power necessary to turn the electric motor. The boats are about to enter the tunnel and begin the journey through the tunnel to Escommes. The postcard was sent in 1907.
