Fontenay Abbey

The 12th-century Cistercian Abbey de Fontenay is just a few miles from the canal and close to the town of Montbard and Veneray-les-Laumes on the northern section of the canal. Even by bicycle, the country road from the canal to the Abbey is easily doable.  If you travel to Burgundy, please try to visit the abbey; it is a breathtaking site and listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. You would want to spend a few hours visiting the monument, as there is much to see and learn.

The Abbey was founded by Saint Bernard in the year 1119 AD.
