Fontenay Abbey
The 12th-century Cistercian Abbey de Fontenay is just a few miles from the canal and close to the town of Montbard and Veneray-les-Laumes on the northern section of the canal. Even using bicycles, the country road from the canal to the Abbey is easily doable. If you travel to Burgundy, please try and make an effort to visit the abbey, it is a breathtaking site and listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. You should consider spending at least 2 hours visiting the monument as there is much to see and learn.
The Abbey was founded by Saint Bernard in the year 1119 AD.
